“A bottle in the smoke,” what does it mean?  That is what I wondered the first time I heard that phrase.  The Bible is full of expressions like this.  Mike has written an easy to read explanation of many of these Eastern culture idioms. The book is both interesting for the casual reader wanting to know about ancient Eastern Custom and a great resource for anyone studying to show themselves approved before God as a workman of the Scriptures. You will not be disappointed.  Rev. Roger Braker, author of Poverty Vs Wealth, and, Braker’s Rules for Contractors

If the Bible is an old friend or a new acquaintance, this book by Michael Verdicchio will reward the reader with insight and understanding of the Word of God. With a researcher’s eye for detail, and the wisdom of a seasoned teacher, Michael brings to life Bible passages that may be difficult to understand in a refreshing and satisfying way. Enjoy it as I have!  Rev. Steven Armstrong, President, Christian Information Center, Inc.

What Does it Mean? is a key that unlocks many passages in the Bible that are difficult to understand. Mike has done an excellent job of not only explaining these Scriptures from the perspective and understanding of the Eastern culture but also in showing how many of them can be applied to our everyday lives. This is an excellent book for all who want to increase their understanding of the Bible. Rev. Donald L. Lamb, author of What About Giants in the Bible?

I especially enjoyed chapter 34, “Beware of the Leaven.” Perusing the purity of His Word and grace is so important to us!   Michael has done a great service to students of the Word by explaining many misunderstood scriptures through their Eastern windows. I look forward to reading it for years to come and recommend What Does it Mean? to all who desire to share God’s Word in a meaningful way.  Pastor Phillip L. Hamilton, Grace Fellowship Church, North Augusta, S.C.

What Does it Mean? is such a great book! I love the way Mike warmly walks us through the culture of now and then and brings new understanding and breathes new life into the Western scriptural dogma. Proverbs 2:10-11 reads “For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you.” Please your soul with new-found knowledge in What Does it Mean? and wisdom will surely follow. THE NEWS IS REALLY POSITIVE!

What If There Was A Radio Show With Positive, Uplifting News Stories?

yeti

There’s a lot of sad, depressing news in our world.  The media outlets including TV, radio, and even Facebook make sure we don’t miss any of it. None of it is inspiring, to say the least.

But what if there was a radio show with positive uplifting news stories?  A radio show that inspires and encourages you?  A radio show that brings you a breath of fresh air?  A radio show about people making a difference, people who inspire you?

Is Today Really A New Day?

We frequently refer to the day at hand as a new day. We wake up in the morning, open our eyes, and realize it is a new day. But what is really “new” about it?

When you awake after a night’s rest, all your problems and challenges have not magically disappeared, have they? The unresolved circumstances you faced yesterday are still unresolved. Your income is still the same as it was the day before. So, what makes this a “new” day?

Have you ever thought about the attitude you choose to adopt upon starting another day? Many begin their day accepting just another day of the same old same old. In other words, they start their day expecting nothing in life to change for the better and hoping nothing gets any worse.

But some choose to greet the new day anticipating and expecting new possibilities. They remind themselves of God’s promises and pray and ask Him for His help. They start their day with confidence and trust in God.

While one group goes through the day, just trying to get by and survive, the other group is looking, anticipating and expecting blessings from above. Some believe nothing will ever change for the better. Others know and believe that with God, all things are possible.

So why not go through each day looking for, anticipating and expecting God’s blessings? Something that hinders people from expecting the best is their past, what happened yesterday, and the day before, and the day before. Because of feelings of guilt, sin consciousness and unworthiness, they greet each new day with little anticipation.

But here’s a great key. At the end of the day, before you go to sleep, open your heart and talk to God. Accept His forgiveness if you fell short and missed the mark. His forgiveness to you is not based on how sorry you are. His forgiveness is extended to you because Christ paid the price for all sins.

Accept His forgiveness. Then, forgive anyone you need to forgive. Let go and release the events of the day, and pray for a good night’s sleep. As you dose off, begin to anticipate waking up to a new day, with new possibilities.

Each morning when you awake, your unresolved issues may still be unresolved, but the promises to you in the Bible are still there; they have not changed. The promises of God to you are brand new with each new day. Each morning, remind yourself of His promises. Pray and ask Him for His help. Start your day with confidence and trust in God.

Then, go out and live the new day to the fullest, to the best of your ability, anticipating and expecting His blessings. Yesterday is gone. Today really can be a new day.

It Is A New Year

(This time of year, many people are talking about setting goals.  There are countless articles, books, and courses about goals. This article is about why some people do not even consider setting goals for the New Year.)

There are lots of people who don’t get very excited about another new year They simply expect another year of the same with a different date attached to it.  But there is a reason why they do not anticipate anything new and exciting in the days and weeks ahead.

One of the main reasons that people do not anticipate new and exciting things for the New Year is that they are very discouraged by where their lives are today.  Not only that, but they see no way for things to improve.  They have allowed disappointments and discouragements in the past to steal their hopes and dreams.

How can you arrive at the place in your life where you will no longer be disappointed or face any discouragement?  You can’t.  Everyone faces disappointments and discouragements.

It Happens To All Of Us

People who are discouraged and feel trapped hardly ever consider that everyone else in the world faces disappointments and discouragements, too.  We all face challenges, obstacles, disappointments, rejections, setbacks, etc.  Since we all face them, then it is our response to what comes our way that determines our futures.

You and I know people who seem to wallow in their troubles.  Looking at the New Year ahead, they often say things like, “I sure hope I have a better year than I did this last year.”  That statement, alone by itself, is not a statement of hope for the New Year, with a clear vision of what one wants to see happen, but rather it is a focus on the disappointments of the past year. What they are really saying is that they just don’t want any more disappointments coming to them in the coming year.

Now who doesn’t want a better year?  Of course, we all do.  But a better year than last year means different things to different people.

What’s Your Response?

For some, a better year is a year without disappointments. Others take an honest look at what they accomplished in the year ending, and decide where they want to go in the coming New Year.  Regardless of the disappointments and setbacks they experienced, their response is to keep dreaming big; they have vision and hope for the days ahead.

There is a big difference in the response, isn’t there?  One hopes that nothing bad happens, and the other hopes that something good happens.  Just like in all of life, our response is our own choice; we choose to respond and those responses really do determine our future.

Those with hopes and dreams for a brighter future have expectations for the coming year.  Many people like to break down the “big expectation” into smaller pieces so that they see their progress over short periods of time.  Some like to put dates on these short range expectations to further help them keep their eyes on what they are expecting for the year.

Shattered Dreams

A man recently shared with me some of what has happened to him in the past few years.  As unpleasant as it was, he was not complaining or looking for sympathy. We were having a discussion about the possibility of him doing something different that has great potential financially.

It was sad to see that he had lost the vision he once had for his life. He is not alone; I see people who desire to only have enough to pay their bills and buy their food.  Many have accepted that they will work until they die, or try to live off of social security.

A New Year?  What’s The Big Deal?

So, when it comes to a New Year, lots of people say, “What’s the big deal?” because they are not only discouraged at where their life is today, but they see no way for things to get any better. They need to stop and realize that while everyone faces disappointments, it is always the response to what life throws at you that is critical to your future.

Once you see and believe that, then you can stop allowing disappointments and discouragements to steal your hopes and dreams.  You can move forward knowing that God said that He will never leave you nor forsake you, that He will direct your path and that He will give you the desires of your heart!

You know, you just might be excited to write down some goals too!
