What If There Was A Radio Show With Positive, Uplifting News Stories?

There’s a lot of sad, depressing news in our world.  The media outlets including TV, radio, and even Facebook make sure we don’t miss any of it. None of it is inspiring, to say the least.

But what if there was a radio show with positive uplifting news stories?  A radio show that inspires and encourages you?  A radio show that brings you a breath of fresh air?  A radio show about people making a difference, people who inspire you?

Is Today Really A New Day?

We frequently refer to the day at hand as a new day. We wake up in the morning, open our eyes, and realize it is a new day. But what is really “new” about it?

When you awake after a night’s rest, all your problems and challenges have not magically disappeared, have they? The unresolved circumstances you faced yesterday are still unresolved. Your income is still the same as it was the day before. So, what makes this a “new” day?

Have you ever thought about the attitude you choose to adopt upon starting another day? Many begin their day accepting just another day of the same old same old. In other words, they start their day expecting nothing in life to change for the better and hoping nothing gets any worse.

But some choose to greet the new day anticipating and expecting new possibilities. They remind themselves of God’s promises and pray and ask Him for His help. They start their day with confidence and trust in God.

While one group goes through the day, just trying to get by and survive, the other group is looking, anticipating and expecting blessings from above. Some believe nothing will ever change for the better. Others know and believe that with God, all things are possible.

So why not go through each day looking for, anticipating and expecting God’s blessings? Something that hinders people from expecting the best is their past, what happened yesterday, and the day before, and the day before. Because of feelings of guilt, sin consciousness and unworthiness, they greet each new day with little anticipation.

But here’s a great key. At the end of the day, before you go to sleep, open your heart and talk to God. Accept His forgiveness if you fell short and missed the mark. His forgiveness to you is not based on how sorry you are. His forgiveness is extended to you because Christ paid the price for all sins.

Accept His forgiveness. Then, forgive anyone you need to forgive. Let go and release the events of the day, and pray for a good night’s sleep. As you dose off, begin to anticipate waking up to a new day, with new possibilities.

Each morning when you awake, your unresolved issues may still be unresolved, but the promises to you in the Bible are still there; they have not changed. The promises of God to you are brand new with each new day. Each morning, remind yourself of His promises. Pray and ask Him for His help. Start your day with confidence and trust in God.

Then, go out and live the new day to the fullest, to the best of your ability, anticipating and expecting His blessings. Yesterday is gone. Today really can be a new day.

It Is A New Year

(This time of year, many people are talking about setting goals.  There are countless articles, books, and courses about goals. This article is about why some people do not even consider setting goals for the New Year.)

There are lots of people who don’t get very excited about another new year They simply expect another year of the same with a different date attached to it.  But there is a reason why they do not anticipate anything new and exciting in the days and weeks ahead.

One of the main reasons that people do not anticipate new and exciting things for the New Year is that they are very discouraged by where their lives are today.  Not only that, but they see no way for things to improve.  They have allowed disappointments and discouragements in the past to steal their hopes and dreams.

How can you arrive at the place in your life where you will no longer be disappointed or face any discouragement?  You can’t.  Everyone faces disappointments and discouragements.

It Happens To All Of Us

People who are discouraged and feel trapped hardly ever consider that everyone else in the world faces disappointments and discouragements, too.  We all face challenges, obstacles, disappointments, rejections, setbacks, etc.  Since we all face them, then it is our response to what comes our way that determines our futures.

You and I know people who seem to wallow in their troubles.  Looking at the New Year ahead, they often say things like, “I sure hope I have a better year than I did this last year.”  That statement, alone by itself, is not a statement of hope for the New Year, with a clear vision of what one wants to see happen, but rather it is a focus on the disappointments of the past year. What they are really saying is that they just don’t want any more disappointments coming to them in the coming year.

Now who doesn’t want a better year?  Of course, we all do.  But a better year than last year means different things to different people.

What’s Your Response?

For some, a better year is a year without disappointments. Others take an honest look at what they accomplished in the year ending, and decide where they want to go in the coming New Year.  Regardless of the disappointments and setbacks they experienced, their response is to keep dreaming big; they have vision and hope for the days ahead.

There is a big difference in the response, isn’t there?  One hopes that nothing bad happens, and the other hopes that something good happens.  Just like in all of life, our response is our own choice; we choose to respond and those responses really do determine our future.

Those with hopes and dreams for a brighter future have expectations for the coming year.  Many people like to break down the “big expectation” into smaller pieces so that they see their progress over short periods of time.  Some like to put dates on these short range expectations to further help them keep their eyes on what they are expecting for the year.

Shattered Dreams

A man recently shared with me some of what has happened to him in the past few years.  As unpleasant as it was, he was not complaining or looking for sympathy. We were having a discussion about the possibility of him doing something different that has great potential financially.

It was sad to see that he had lost the vision he once had for his life. He is not alone; I see people who desire to only have enough to pay their bills and buy their food.  Many have accepted that they will work until they die, or try to live off of social security.

A New Year?  What’s The Big Deal?

So, when it comes to a New Year, lots of people say, “What’s the big deal?” because they are not only discouraged at where their life is today, but they see no way for things to get any better. They need to stop and realize that while everyone faces disappointments, it is always the response to what life throws at you that is critical to your future.

Once you see and believe that, then you can stop allowing disappointments and discouragements to steal your hopes and dreams.  You can move forward knowing that God said that He will never leave you nor forsake you, that He will direct your path and that He will give you the desires of your heart!

You know, you just might be excited to write down some goals too!

Renewed Like The Eagle

From the Category, “The Eastern Eye”

[The Bible is an “Eastern” book. It was written many years ago in the “East” which today we refer to as “The Middle East.”  As such, there are many customs and idioms that are not familiar to the “Western” mind.

In understanding the Scriptures it is important for us to understand the culture, but it doesn’t mean that we should necessarily follow that culture. Rather, it is in the understanding of the Eastern culture that we gain light and understanding about many things in the Bible.]

In the fifth verse of Psalm 103, God promises to satisfy us with good things so that our youth is renewed like the eagle is renewed.  In order to understand this verse of Scripture, let’s first consider the eagle.

It is both interesting as well as noteworthy that eagles are mentioned and used as a comparison numerous times in the Bible. The eagle, like other comparisons, is mentioned in places where its characteristics help make the point. Understanding some characteristics of eagles helps us to understand the comparisons.

For instance, Deuteronomy Chapter 32 refers to God as an eagle, fluttering over the young, spreading out His wings, and then bearing them on His wings.

A mother eagle will stir up the nest and let the babies drop and then catch them with her wings.  This is how she teaches them to fly.  God wants us to fly and soar.  He is so willing to catch us, help us, and carry us until we can indeed fly.

In Exodus 19:4, God reminds Moses that He bore the nation of Israel on eagle’s wings.  In other words, He carried the whole nation on His wings, just as a mother eagle would carry her young on her wings.  That is quite a picture of God’s great power, care, and concern.

There are numerous comparisons in the Bible using the eagle.  One such case is Psalm 103, where it talks about our youth being renewed as an eagle is renewed.  How is the youth of an eagle renewed?

I have read of different methods that different types of eagles have to shed their old feathers.  One method I read was that of the eagle plucking out every feather on his body until he is completely bare. He stays in a hiding place until he has grown new feathers, then he can come out.

Another method I have read about is when an eagle will shed his old cumbersome feathers by entering into a body of water.  At that point the old feathers are shed.  The eagle then stays close to shore protecting himself and eating what food he can, waiting for new feathers.  Once he has his new feathers, his strength is renewed, and it is compared to his youth being renewed.

The book of Isaiah says that those who wait upon the Lord will renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Our “youth,” or specifically, our spiritual walk with God, can be renewed, as we shed the old, and get the new.  There are a number of verses in the New Testament that refer to putting off, and putting on.  We are to put off the old man and put on the new man.

Just like the eagle cannot get his new feathers until he gets rid of his old feathers, we too must put off, cast down, or lay aside the old and then put on the new.

We make a conscious mental effort to put off the actions of the old nature.  We determine mentally that those old things will no longer be a part of our lives.  And then we replace them with what the Bible declares to be our new nature.

For example, in Ephesians it says to put away lying and speak every man truth with his neighbor.  Lying is part of the old nature.  Speaking the truth is a characteristic of the new nature.

So we can mentally determine to put away lying; we can shed those old feathers. And in it’s place we make a conscious mental decision to speak the truth. In doing so, we can then walk with God unencumbered by the old.

As we shed the old feathers and put on the new in their place, we are renewed.  We can walk with Him and not faint.  We can run with Him and not be weary. We can be renewed and mount up with wings of eagles.

Psalm 103:5
Who satisfies your mouth with good things; so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Deuteronomy 32:9-12
For the Lord’s portion is His people; Jacob is the lot of His inheritance.

He found him in a desert land, and in the waste howling wilderness; He led him about, He instructed him, He kept him as the apple of His eye.

As an eagle stirs up her nest, flutters over her young, spreads abroad her wings, takes them, bears them on her wings:

So the Lord alone did lead him, and there was no strange god with him.

Exodus 19:4
You have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself.

Isaiah 40:31
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Ephesians 4:22- 25:
That you put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;

And that you put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor: for we are members one of another.

II Corinthians 10:5
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

Hebrews 12:1
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.

Resources
There are a number of books that you can read to get insight on customs, manners, idioms and meanings from the Eastern culture in which the Bible was written.  The best I know of were written by Bishop K. C. Pillai.  I have had the pleasure of listening to many recorded teaching by him.

He wrote three books, and they are hard to find, and are usually over priced.  But, if you want to you can check this link to see what Amazon has to offer. Light Through an Eastern Window

Another great resource that I have used for years is a book called, “Manners and Customs of the Bible,” by James Freeman. Mine was printed in 1972 and I know they have newer additions. For the newest edition, just click the link and it will take you to Amazon. The New Manners and Customs of the Bible (Pure Gold Classics)
