Inhaling The Pacific Ocean

Pacific Beach

I recently had a nice three day weekend in San Diego, at Pacific Beach. I spent a little bit of time sightseeing and a whole lot of time absorbing and inhaling the Pacific Ocean.

I took several walks on the beach, played in its chilly water several times, and enjoyed the view and sounds from our room. But the best was the last afternoon just sitting on the beach, in kind of a prayerful mode.

You just can’t gaze at the ocean for very long without becoming overwhelmed at how massive it really is. (I just now had to Google it: 63.8 million square miles!) This gigantic magnificent body of water stretches out and covers nearly a third of the Earth’s surface!

Then there’s the sound. The foamy roar of waves crashing over and over again, ending with the gentle flow of water running to the shore, and then heading back out to the sea again.

As I sat there, my feet playing with the sand, I was again reminded of how great the Creator is. And as I talked to Him, I praised Him for His power, His greatness, the beauty of His creation, His love.

How can you look at the Pacific Ocean, or any other ocean, and not be amazed at the greatness of God Who created it? Or hear the pounding waves and not be amazed at His great power? Or see the spectacular light show in the sky at night and not humbly give praise to the One true God, the Creator.

I know there are those who worship the stars and the heavens; that’s been going on for thousands of years. Some choose to worship and serve the creation instead of the Creator – that’s their choice, but it’s rather foolish, wouldn’t you say?

I really love the ocean and hope someday to live near it! I can sit for a long, long time just watching and listening as the waves come rolling in, over and over. I certainly don’t worship the ocean, but I do see the handiwork of the Great Creator, and I give Him the praise for another of His magnificent works.
