On July 4th, 2026, the United States of America celebrates its 250th birthday.  It is a time of celebration – it is also a time of thanksgiving.

There is no denying the USA has been a blessed country; not a perfect country, but indeed blessed.  Despite our human frailty and mistakes, God has indeed poured out His Grace on this nation. A perfect country would require a land of only perfect people. 

Regardless of what people may say, our beloved country was founded by many who had great respect and reverence for Almighty God and the Bible.  John Adams, concerning the new constitution wrote the following:

“We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge or gallantry would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution is designed only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for any other.”  John Adams

Our nation’s moral decline is obvious. If our country is to survive, it will take prayer, hearts turning to Godly biblical and moral principles, and, by God’s grace and mercy,

One of many prayers by George Washington:

“O eternal and everlasting God, I presume to present myself this morning before thy Divine majesty, beseeching thee to accept of my humble and hearty thanks, that it hath pleased thy great goodness to keep and preserve me the night past from all the dangers poor mortals are subject to, and hast given me sweet and pleasant sleep, whereby I find my body refreshed and comforted for performing the duties of this day, in which I beseech thee to defend me from all perils of body & soul. Direct my thoughts, words and work, wash away my sins in the immaculate blood of the Lamb, and purge my heart by thy holy spirit, from the dross of my natural corruption, that I may with more freedom of mind and liberty of will serve thee, the ever living God, in righteousness and holiness this day, and all the days of my life. Shortly before the Declaration of Independence was signed, the second Continental Congress called for a Day of Humility, Fasting and Prayer.  Below is Tulsi Gabbard sharing on the 250th anniversary of that solemn event:

May people’s hearts here in the USA, and in every nation,  turn to the Supreme and Almighty God, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, and recognize His Son as the savior of all of mankind.  And may we Christians proclaim the Good News of salvation to those who have ears to hear, and may we continue to pray for those in positions of authority and responsibility, that they may receive God’s wisdom in whatever way God brings it to them.

II Timothy 2:1-4:
I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
