Last year around this time, I decided to do something through the year 2017. More about that in a minute.

At the dawn of a New Year many people make resolutions. There are things they want to eliminate in their lives as well as things they want to add. Often, these, “New Year’s resolutions” have to do with diet.

So what about a spiritual diet for 2018? Why not eat more of God’s Word in the coming year?

The Prophet Jeremiah said, “Thy words were found and I did eat them.” Of course he didn’t literally chew on the scrolls. It’s figurative, meaning he partook of the word of God; ingested, digested, and assimilated it. Why did he do that?

In the Book of Psalms it says, “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” It also says that God’s words are sweeter than honey. Isn’t it interesting there are a number of references to God’s Word figuratively relating it to food?

Jesus Christ said man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God. Job said he esteemed God’s words more than his necessary food. In the books of Philippians and I John, God’s word is referenced as the “word of life.”

We do need physical food for our physical life, and perhaps eating a little less in the coming year might be beneficial. But we also need spiritual food for our spiritual life, and perhaps eating a little more in the coming year might be very beneficial.

Last year, around this time, I decided to read the whole Bible in 2017. It had been quite awhile since I went through the entire Bible reading every chapter and verse. I finished about a week ago and it was a very rewarding feast, a feast I plan to enjoy again and again.

Whether or not you decide to read the whole Bible in 2018 and find a specific Bible reading plan online, or just come up with your own plan, why not taste and see that the Lord is good, and feast a little more on the Word of Life in 2018!

Bon Appétit and Happy New Year!
