(There are links below to previous Love Nuggets.)

The Bible speaks very clearly about God’s love. God’s very nature is love. His love for you and me does not change. Nothing can ever separate us from the love of God.

So what about when we miss the mark or do something that is not right? God is just going to overlook that?

What do you want Him to do about it? Punish you? Many teach exactly that.

They say at times the reason something negative is happening to you is because God is punishing you for what you did. If that were true, then that punishment is a payment. But the Bible says that Jesus paid the full price for all sins.

We have free will to think what we will and choose what we do. Our choices have consequences. God doesn’t want us to suffer bad consequences from bad choices, so He directs us how to think and live rightly so our lives can be blessed.

He so desires that we would make right choices. But when we don’t, and end up with bad consequences, He looks past all our junk. He looks past it and He sees us as He made us: righteous, forgiven, and not separated from His love.

How?

It all goes back to John 3:16: “God so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son…” The reason we have God’s forgiveness is because Christ paid the price for all sins. Christ paid the price for all sins because God so loved us that He sent His only begotten Son.

This certainly does not diminish the wrong one does; there are still consequences for our choices. Rather, this is a shift in focus, a shift away from us and our sins, toward God’s love and His goodness. More on His goodness in the next Love Nuggets.
