Have you ever just unplugged yourself from it all? I did. Sheer bliss!

No phone calls. No voice mails. No texts. No emails. Bliss!

No Instagram. No Twitter. No Facebook. Bliss!

I unplugged for seven days as Kathy and I took a cruise celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary. Lazy time. Relaxing time. Reading time.

I read two books, seven articles (I printed ahead of time), and some scripts for upcoming editions of Stories for Joshua.

What Did I Read?

I really enjoyed reading, The Calling“ by Brother Andrew. Years ago I read his first book, “God’s Smuggler.” It’s filled with exciting and miraculous stories of Brother Andrew, a man on a mission to bring Bibles into then communist countries, risking imprisonment and worse!

“The Calling” picks up where the Smuggler leaves off. “The Calling” reads like a modern day book of Acts. Brother Andrew, who just turned 88, continues to this day with a passion for persecuted Christians and getting the written Word of God to everyone, including Muslims!

Get your copy from the righthand column of this blog.

I also read my friend Tim Maranville’s new book, Mutations. No, it’s not sci-fi. Far from it. It’s”Talent Coaching, Leadership, and Whimsical Wisdoms” and it’s a must for those in radio. Actually, a very practical book for any and all communicators: radio, TV, speakers, preachers, podcasters, bloggers, teachers, etc.

Get your copy from the right column of this blog.

Prior to leaving, I printed seven assorted and current articles about podcasting, which I also read. More on that at a later date.

And, I reviewed some of the scripts for the final six CD’s of Stories for Joshua. I’m looking forward to recording those CD’s over the next number of weeks. I will post when each volume becomes available.

So, that’s how I spent last week with my bride of 45 years. We had a great relaxing time together. Made me think back to when we were first married – the only electronics we had were an Akai reel to reel tape player, with record player, and a “home phone.” Nope, no TV. That’s it. Simpler times, and a whole lot less distractions.

But, the technology is here. So, I try to not get too distracted with “things,” and use it to help and encourage others. I recently had folks subscribe to this blog from Canada, Australia and Uganda. Welcome!

And since we’re all “plugged in” here, I’ll do my best to add value to your life.
