The New Year is here. 2020 finally comes to a close. Lots of people are hoping for a new and better year ahead. After 2020, that’s kind of an understatement.
Many are praying for lots of things to change for the better, while others are making new “resolutions” for their lives in the upcoming New Year. But there is something that will not change in this New Year.
In the Gospel of John, Jesus spoke to Nicodemus about being “born again.” He clearly pointed out two literal births. We read in the first chapter of the epistle of I Peter about being “begotten of God,” and, “being born again.” It says in verse 23, “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.” There is something amazing in that verse.
We easily understand what it means to be born a human being. A baby arrives. A child has been born. We are human beings. The nature we have from being born the first time, as a human being, is corruptible seed. It can get injured; it can get sick; human beings die.
But being born the second time, “born again,” is not of corruptible seed. When it comes to being born again, it says, “not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible!” And that is amazing!
Do you Know What That Means?
That means EVERYTHING associated with this new birth, being born again, cannot and will not change! And while this New Year may be filled with prayers and hopes for some things to change for the better, it is so inspiring and encouraging to realize the things God has given us and done for us in this new birth will never change!
Many Christians recognize being born again affords them eternal life. The Scriptures are clear about it. And why not? It’s “incorruptible!” But not only is this new life incorruptible, so are all the right, privileges and abilities that come with being born again.
The New Testament Church epistles are full of the details concerning this new birth, being born again, begotten of God. For example, the book of Romans, speaking of those who are born again, says that nothing can separate us from the love of God. That cannot change. That will never diminish or corrupt because it is a part of that incorruptible seed we receive when we are born again.
Romans also tells us that we are children of God, heirs of God, and in fact joint heirs with Christ. Joint heirs are those who share in the inheritance. People have on many occasions, changed their will and someone who was once an heir, is no longer in the will. Not so for us! We remain heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ! It’s incorruptible seed! Nothing we have from this new birth diminishes or corrupts.
You Are And You Remain Righteous In The Eyes Of God!
We also read in Romans that those who are born again are righteous in the eyes of God. Can your righteousness be diminished, lost or corrupted? What if you totally turn your back on God, and worship the trees, or worse!? Would you then still be righteous in His eyes?
If your righteousness is based on your own works, then yes, it could be diminished, lost or corrupted. But the Bible is clear that we cannot and did not make ourselves righteous before God. It is part of what we receive in this new birth. It is part of the new nature we received when we got born again and that is incorruptible.
Our righteousness before God cannot be diminished, lost or corrupted. A person may choose to walk away from God and worship the trees, or worse. But being born again, with all that comes with it is incorruptible seed.
Religion may teach that if you’re doing unrighteous deeds, you need to change your ways, and do righteous things so you can then become righteous before God. That is not biblical. Rather, the more you see and understand what God has already done for you in the new birth, that’s what initiates a change.
How To Get Saved – How To Get Born Again
Ephesians tells us we are not saved by our works. God made it all so simple – believe in His Son, Jesus Christ. Confess Jesus as lord, believe in your heart God raised him from the dead, and the Bible says, “Thou shalt be saved!” That is how one gets born again, and receives eternal life and all that goes with it, and it is incorruptible seed!
We are saved, we receive eternal life, we have forgiveness, we are His children, joint heirs with Christ, righteous in His sight! And so much more, and it’s all incorruptible!
It’s stunning when you think about it! How inspiring and encouraging, especially when a New Year is upon us, with prayers and hopes for things to change for the better, that what God already did for us in the “new birth” does not change. How great God’s Love truly is! What a completed work of salvation and redemption Jesus Christ accomplished! How blessed we are!
Read The Bible To Discover…
As we read those New Testament epistles this coming New Year, there is so much information about who we are as born again ones, and what we have as born again ones, and what we can do as born again ones. As we read and think on those things, let’s remind ourselves, that all those things have not, and will not change!
The world may get even more crazy. We may face personal challenges in the coming New Year. But nothing we are dealing with today, or in the coming New Year, can ever separate us from the love God! Jesus said, in John 16, “For the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.” The Father Himself loves you!
The love God has for you, personally, will never diminish, be lost or corrupted. God put His seed in us, and it’s incorruptible seed. We are literally and truly sons and daughters of God Almighty and nothing will ever change that.
So stay mindful of His promises to you in this coming New Year. All of His promises to you have not changed. What God has promised to His dear children are still true!
Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
John 3:7That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Romans 10:9Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
I peter 1:23
