Last night Kathy and I watched the movie, “Coach Carter. We have seen it several times before. It is a really an inspiring movie, based on the true story of Coach Ken Carter, in Richmond California.
There is a great quote near the end of the movie. The quote is from a poem by Marianne Williamson.
Even though the quote in the movie was very inspiring, there were some lines that the movie script left out from the original poem. So, below, first, the quote from the movie, and then, the actual poem from Marianne Williamson.
From the movie, Coach Carter:
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine as children do. It’s not just in some of us; it is in everyone.
And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
From the poem, Our Greatest Fear, by Marianne Williamson:
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
Those are some pretty powerful words – perhaps some good food to chew on over the weekend. If you have a comment, please type itin below; we’d love to hear what’s on your mind.
Have a great weekend!
