There are members of all types of groups and organizations. I have a number of different memberships, including a credit union, and a shopping warehouse. Basically, a membership allows you to take advantage of what is offered to members. That’s the whole point of being a member, right?
Perhaps you are a member of a group or organization. The criteria to join might be anything from paying a monetary requirement, having achieved a certain accomplishment or status, or some other requirement in order to become a member.
Being a member of a certain group or organization affords its members certain privileges that non-members do not have. Certain benefits and privileges are strictly for, “members only,” and non- members cannot access those benefits and privileges.
The Bible speaks of those who are born again as being members of the Body of Christ, with Jesus Christ as the head. That sounds like a great group to be a member of, doesn’t it? Of all the groups or organizations that exist, can you think of one more advantageous to be a member of than the one with Jesus Christ as the head?
How do you join? What are the benefits?
How Do You Join?
To become an eternal lifetime member of this very prestigious organization and to receive and have access to all the privileges and benefits, the criteria is very simple.
Romans 10:9
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Two very simple requirements: Confess, or acknowledge, the Lord Jesus. Of all the human beings who have ever lived, Jesus Christ is lord of all people. And secondly, believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead.
That verse is very clear that after performing those two requirements, you are saved; in other words, you are born again; you you have eternal life. The Bible talks about eternal life as a gift, and that we are not saved by works, but by God’s grace.
At that moment, you become an eternal lifetime member of the Body of Christ. And, Christ is the head of that Body. So who is the most important member in this group, this organization? Jesus Christ. He is the head, the prominent one.
So How Important Are You As A Member?
Since membership to the Body of Christ is open to anyone, those who become members bring with them their talents and abilities. One might think that someone with a lot of talent and ability might be more important than another member who does not have those same talents and abilities. Not so!
The Bible is very clear that each and every member is just as important and needed as every other member. This means the one who is up front teaching a group is no more important or needed than one who is not up front teaching. The Bible teaches that every member of the Body of Christ is uniquely important, needed, necessary, and honorable. That includes you! You are needed; you are necessary; you are honored.
Check Out Your Benefits In Your Membership Information Guide
Usually when you become a member of a group or organization, you are given information about your membership. Likewise, when you became a member of the Body of Christ, there is indeed a great information guide; the Bible. Some of the greatest information about your membership can be found in what are referred to as “The Seven Church Epistles (Romans – Thessalonians).
The Seven Church epistles are addressed to, and written for those who are born again members of the Body of Christ. It’s an important part of your membership guide. In it, each member can find all the rights, privileges, abilities and benefits of being a unique member of the Body of Christ.
If you are a member of a group or organization, but don’t know or understand all the benefits and privileges of being a member, you will obviously miss out on those benefits and privileges. As a born again believer and member of the Body of Christ, you belong to greatest organization ever, with Christ as the head. Why not find out who you really are and what you really have?
Take some time and read the epistles of Romans through Thessalonians. Note who God says you are and what He says you have, and, what He says you can do!
