As born again Christians, we are part of a really big family. We have brothers and sisters all over the world. Some of our brothers and sisters need our help.
Perhaps you have heard the news from Egypt recently. Our brothers and sisters are suffering great persecution because of their faith and love of Christ. In addition to property damage and burnings, some have been beaten, tortured and even murdered. They need our help.
Christians in Egypt are not alone. Our brothers and sisters in many places all around the globe are also enduring cruel persecution. Why is there no great public outcry about the violation of their human rights?
Jesus told his followers that if unbelievers hate you, know that they hated me first. “If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you.” It has been going on since the first century.
And some of what you hear going on in many parts of our world today is very reminiscent of what you read about in the Bible during those early days of Christianity. Believers and followers of Christ were beaten, tortured, and some were even killed. It’s happening today, and they need our help.
What Can We Do To Help?
Being informed and aware is important. No, it’s certainly not pleasant to hear about it, no more than it would be if our sibling or child or parent was going through a very difficult time. But if that were true, we would all still want to help in any way that we could, right?
There are plenty of articles you can find on the internet. I have read numerous ones and it is heartbreaking. On the other hand, they have also inspired me to pray more for my brothers and sisters.
I have also been following the story of American Pastor Saeed Abedini. It is a travesty what the country of Iran has done and is doing to that man. It is very difficult to understand why the U.S. government is not doing more to help this American Christian.
I recently heard a man speaking on the radio for a few minutes. He was born and raised in Egypt, and now lives in Toronto. I later searched out his story. What that man endured for his belief in God and love for Jesus Christ is remarkable. Read his story and see what this convert from Islam is doing today.
We Can Pray
As sad as it is to become aware of what some of our brothers and sisters are facing, it does inspire one to pray, doesn’t it? Yes, there are organizations dedicated to helping in any way that they can, and I thank God for them. There are people who contribute financially to those organizations. But every one of us can help by making some time to pray.
The Apostle Paul wrote to the Corinthian believers, thanking them for their prayers. He mentioned to them that he was at the point of even despairing for his life. He told them that they had helped him by praying for him.
He wrote to the believers in Thessalonica encouraging them to pray that the Word of the Lord would have free course, and that Paul and his group would be “delivered from unreasonable and wicked men.” We can do the same, right? We can pray that the Gospel, the good news concerning Jesus Christ, will have free course so it can reach those who want to hear, and that our brothers and sisters can be delivered from unreasonable and wicked people.
We can offer that kind of help and assistance on a very regular basis. And if this article inspired you to help them by prayer, then share this article with someone else. They just might be inspired to pray, too. Our brothers and sisters need our help.
