Buying And Giving

It’s Another Podcast

On Saturday, I heard someone on the radio talking about buying a new car, and they were asking the hosts of the show some questions.  It made me think about our present economy.

In this short podcast (4:40) I have some comments both about buying and giving.  What’s your take on this?

  1. Hi Mike! Loved your podcast on buying and giving! I’m currently unemployed and have been since July. I’m a single mom with a son in college. I’ve always made it a point to give – via abundant sharing. I had it setup through my online banking so that out of my gross pay I calculated at least 10% off the top to give every month. I also gave when I would attend a teaching or camp or anytime a certain person was in need. However, now that I’m unemployed I obviously can’t give what I was giving before (i.e. the 10% of my gross pay, since my gross pay now is zero). But I do try to give in other ways. For example, I gave a used car to a believer boy that was in need of a car to take off to college. I could have easily sold that car but I saw the need and instantly decided to give him the car for free. I also give of my time when a believer is in need of some kind of help. Since I love to cook, I find believers that are either too busy or physically not able to cook and I supply their family with meals. I love doing that! Right now there’s a believer coming to my house to help me with things that need fixing around my home and he’s been so great and loving! He’s here on his weekends and helping me get things done! He’s just being loving and giving – there’s nothing in it for him other than that he is getting blessed to give to others. I decided to cook for him and his three boys and his girlfriend, not that they need it, but I just wanted to show my appreciation. Anyway, I totally agree with you in that there are so many other ways to give and they’re easy to find if your heart is in it. I don’t think that we need to always just give in terms of $$, if our heart is to bless others, there are many other ways to give. Do you think it’s okay for now to have stopped my tithing of 10% of my gross pay until I get a job? Please pray for me to find a job soon, also pray for my boy Adam (he works part time taking care of autistic kids and is in college full time). He wants him to find a job in his career – IT. He wants to be a web page designer and ultimately start his own business.
I love you and love your teachings!! Thank you so much for your heart and love for God’s word and His children!! 🙂
    In Christ,
    Shamiran

    • Thanks for the kind words, Shamiran.
You certainly have a heart of giving – continue to look for and expect God’s blessings. Have you ever thought of working from home?
I will pray for you and Adam; God bless you.

  2. Hi Mikle

I really appreciate all the work you do. I love your podcasts and writings.
For many years i have tithed. The first tithe went to the church that i belonged to at the time, the second tithe was saved for the feast of tabernacles, which i observed when i was in a church called worldwide church of GOD, and every third year i paid a 3rd tithe to the church for the widows and the fatherless.
I have not been part of that church for a few years now. I have 2 questiions. Should i seek out another church and if i wanted to tithe who would i give it to since i am not a member of any specific church? Ed Furman

    • Thanks, Ed.
The New Testament talks about giving, as one purposes in his heart; Many times I answer the question you asked by suggesting that one gives where he or she is being spiritually fed – but again, as one purposes in their heart.(II Corinthians 9:7)
As for your other question, I would find some like-minded people to fellowship with – it may or may not end up being in an organized church.
      God bless you.

  3. Hi Mike and God Bless You More than abundantly my FRIEND !!!
I have some thing really serious to say….I have been sick pretty much for three years and unable to work..God has provided for me with items and with money. The money I receive, I think I should give back to God because after all that is where it came from in the first place. But you know what…many times I have not and I have felt so badly and untrusting and have to ask God to forgive me over and over again. One of my most favorite promises in the Word of God is abundantly sharing ! I NEVER had a problem with it EVER… I couldn’t wait to abundantly share. Yes, I give things away for sure, but I have allowed to let myself get snagged on the money thing. It is so huge on my heart now that regardless of whether I have a penny left or not I have got to abundantly share ! I am mortified to say this “out loud” because it is so not believing God to be my sufficiency in everything and He is my Father… Good Lord, things can be awfully subtle at times and to allow my most favorite thing to get stolen from me is CRAZY ! It reflects in everything I do….I have to say again “I am sorry God” and DO something about it !!! So I thank you for your podcast this message has come to me from God and so many other ways…there can be no more “screwing” around with this subject rgardless of the crappy circumstances and the little voice in my ear going “Carol you will never make it through the month and if you only have $30.00 to give that is a ridiculous tithe”….
…..so guess what the devil can suck rocks and I am going to tithe no matter how little or how big; it is my way of being in partnership with my Father and it makes me sooooo happy !!!
    Love you, Mike !
    Carol

    • Carol, Carol – my friend, don’t be so hard on yourself! You have a wonderful heart of giving – just remember what you already know; ” give as you purpose in your heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; God loves a cheerful giver.” You are a cheerful giver and God loves you. And, as you also know, it is never the amount given – only the heart behind it. In the meantime, keep looking for and expecting God’s blessings – love you…
