Jesus Christ read it. He quoted it often. He spoke about it on a number of occasions.
Today, there are lots of opinions about the Bible. I’ve heard it called the good book, old fogey book, irrelevant book, just for holy rollers, mostly made up, good history of the Jewish people, and the Word of God.
Before I share Jesus Christ’s opinion of the scriptures, consider this. A person can read a true account, not believe it and decide it’s not true. Everyone’s entitled to their own opinions, but their opinions do not make it true or not; something is either true or it isn’t.
Jesus said….
Speaking one day on the topic of the resurrection, Jesus Christ referred to the scriptures and said, “…have you not read that which was spoken unto you by God, saying…” He referred to the written scriptures as God speaking to you!
On another occasion he said God’s Word was truth. Well that’s obviously very logical since God cannot lie. And so, his opinion of the scriptures is God speaking the truth to you and me.
In the book of Jeremiah, chapter 36, you can read where God told the prophet to write down the words God was about to tell him. The Apostle Paul, who wrote so much of the New Testament, said the gospel he preached (and later wrote) was not from him or any other person; he received it by revelation. The Apostle Peter noted that the scriptures didn’t come from men, but holy men of God spoke (wrote) as they were moved by the holy spirit.
The Bible says…
The Bible testifies of itself in a number of places, besides those noted above, that the words written came from God. Jesus Christ’s opinion of the scriptures is that they are God speaking the truth to you and me. We can then conclude that God chose to communicate to human beings via written words, the Bible, which we rightly call the Word of God.
There are today, as there have been for thousands of years, many opinions about the scriptures. Everyone has a right to their own opinions. But, don’t you think having the same opinion as Jesus Christ puts you in good company, and on very solid ground? I sure do.
