Who Are You?

You and I both know there are many people today who have low self esteem. Differing factors can contribute to one’s self doubt or self disgust. Sadly, some Christians are living with a low self image because of feelings of unworthiness.

Jesus Christ once said, “…the truth will make you free.” Therefore, things not true enslave you; they restrict or limit you. Seeing and believing things about yourself that are not true from God’s point of view will most assuredly restrict and limit you.

Living life feeling unworthy of God’s love, help and blessings is not freedom. It is slavery. Of course we can’t earn His love, help or blessings, but that’s not the point.

What Are You Worth To Him?

Because of the completed work of Christ, Christians belong to God; He paid the price for us. The price was extremely high; His only begotten Son. He willingly paid it; we are worth it to Him!

Far too often we define ourselves by our current circumstances. If things are going well, we feel good about ourselves. If things are not going well, we tend to not feel so good about ourselves. But our circumstances, good or bad, are simply just where we are at the moment; I try to never allow circumstances to define who I really am.

Here’s a quote from one of the greatest professional basketball players ever, Michael Jordan. “I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” He succeeded because he did not see himself as a failure, and did not allow current circumstances to define who he was.

Who Are You?

So, from God’s point of view, whether you play in the NBA, or sell cars, or work in a restaurant, who are you in His eyes? Jesus said the scriptures were true and the truth will make you free. In them a Christian can read a number of things about himself, from God’s point of view.

You are His dear child; God is your heavenly Father; you are lovely and accepted. He made you righteous; you are right in His eyes. You are no longer guilty; you have been forgiven. You have access to the Father; invited into the throne room of His grace.

You are a member of the household of God. Nothing can ever separate you from God’s love. You have eternal life, and when he returns, you will meet Jesus Christ in the air!

Seeing those truths, and others, about yourself, and accepting them and believing them will set you free. Accepting and believing things about yourself that are not true will enslave, limit and restrict you.

Identify Theft

Far too many Christians are living their lives trying to be good enough or do enough good so God will love them, accept them, and bless them. That’s not freedom; it is slavery. And living that way severely restricts their relationship with God.

The true identity for a Christian is written in the scriptures. We hear a lot today about identity theft. Jesus said, “The thief comes not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” Don’t allow the thief to steal your true identity!

In the New Testament Church Epistles you will find your true identity; you will also see your true value and worth to God. Never allow your present circumstances to define who you are or measure your worth. You are a child of the Highest, and nothing can separate His love from you!
