Is God Really Willing?

is He really

It was March, 1977; my daughter was three months old. I stood at her crib, convinced of God’s great ability to heal her, but wavering some on His willingness to hear and answer my prayer. I knew He could, but I was hoping He was willing to heal her stomach issues so she would not need surgery.

Most of us recognize, accept and believe God’s awesome power and ability. We readily agree and believe that there is nothing too hard or too big for God. But, is He is really willing to do it for me, personally?
Why Do We Doubt His Willingness?

Feelings of unworthiness at times lead us to think God is not really willing to do it for us personally. Those feelings are based on our actions, or simply how we see ourselves living our lives.

But when you really think about it, what is it that we could do, or refrain from doing, that would earn His willingness? What can we do that puts us in a position of deserving anything from the the Almighty? That’s a big part of the answer, because far too many Christians base their self worth on how much they do right, and how little they do wrong.

Your Actions Do Not Determine His Love For You!

If our righteousness and worthiness in God’s eyes depended upon our actions, then we wouldn’t have needed a savior! The Bible says that it is the completed work of Christ that makes us righteous and worthy in the sight of God.

The Scriptures also tell us nothing can separate you or me from God’s love. His love for you and me is unconditional. Therefor our actions have nothing to do with His unwavering love me and you.

He doesn’t love you more when you’re praying. He doesn’t love you any less when you’re messing up. His love for you is unconditional and unwavering! Nothing can separate you from His love, all because of Christ’s completed work.

But some do base their righteousness, God’s love for them, and God’s willingness, on their actions and behavior. When they’re doing “good things,” they feel confident to go to God and ask for what they need. Other times when falling short or messing up, they have very little confidence to go to God and expect His help.

Take It Personally!

Accepting Christ’s completed work is more than just saying, “Christ did this, and Christ did that. Take it personally! Personally accept those realities as eternally true for you right now!

The price for your sins has been paid in full, which means you can now stand before God without any sense of guilt, shame, or condemnation.

Nothing can separate you from the love of God, period.

God now sees you as His righteous child, holy, lovely and acceptable.

He has given you eternal life.

All this, and more, we have because of what Christ accomplished. It has nothing to do with our works, or our deserving it, but our lives are deeply affected by accepting it.

Before I prayed over my daughter that night back in 1977, I had to remind myself that receiving the healing my daughter needed was not based on how “good” I had been recently.

I reminded myself God really did love me unconditionally. I accepted His ability and His willingness to heal. I prayed over my daughter.

Over the next few days I continued to ask God for her healing, staying convinced He was able and willing, and continued anticipating her healing.  At the doctor’s office several days later, they were all astonished at what had taken place in her little body. No internal stomach surgery necessary. She was healed!

  1. Mike, thanks for your post. This time my comment is short:
“His love for you is unconditional and unwavering! ” – this is so new to me. I always shared following point of view: if I am good, God’s good for me. I am bad – He would stop his love and his bless for me.
You opened my eyes. So late in my life and so late in my belief.
    Thanks,
    Adam

    • Adam, isn’t it amazing, and very humbling that the scriptures say nothing can separate us from God’s love!
      Amen!
      God bless you
