Kathy and I were talking the other day about love, the love of God. We reminded ourselves of a verse in the Bible that says, “And now these three remain: faith [believing], hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” Love is greater than hope and believing!

A couple of hours after our chat, I decided to post, from time to time, what I’m calling “Love Nuggets.” I trust these short posts will inspire as well as encourage. I do realize lots has been written on this topic. And yet, since God’s Word declares it is greater than believing or hope, it is beneficial to be reminded.

In this first Love Nuggets post, it seems appropriate to start with God. The Bible tells us His very nature is love; God is love. How many people ignorantly see God as hateful, vengeful, and mean, and yet, the truth is, God is love; it is His very nature.

The most popular verse in the Bible, John 3:16, says, “For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” The motive for God sending His Son to redeem mankind and make everlasting life available to whosoever, was love. When it comes to love, God made the first move; He initiated love.

Since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another, the Bible states. That makes sense, doesn’t it? I believe it does, and I believe the more you understand and believe just how much God loves you and what He’s done for you, the easier it is to love every one else. More about that coming up in the next Love Nuggets post.
