Relax And Enjoy Your Flight

I am writing this sitting in my aisle seat about 39,000 feet in the air.  I am aboard flight 3837 from Denver to Phoenix.  I am experiencing something I have never experienced before.

I have flown numerous times.  I have been on big jumbo transatlantic aircrafts, as well as little puddle jumpers.  But today, aboard a 737 from Southwest Airlines, the irony is just too funny.

The forecast for Phoenix today is around 110.  It could get even hotter.  It’s safe to say it is going to be hot when we land in about 40 minutes.

There is something wrong with the air conditioning in this plane.  I’ve been on flights before when the A/C was not working very well.  Not the case on this flight.

The problem today is that the air conditioning is on full blast and it is cold in the cabin.  In fact the gentleman next to me just found his jacket, which was stuffed in his carry on bag, and put it on and zipped it up! (Why he is bringing a jacket to Arizona in June I have no idea.)

The stewardess said that they were “working on the problem.”  They’re not sure if it will be fixed before we land, so I asked for extra peanuts, thinking I might generate some body heat by eating them.  My cranberry juice over ice was certainly a nice, cool refreshing drink!

I just glanced around and it seems like most people are doing just fine, and so far, I cannot see anyone’s breath.  I do notice several ladies in the late 50’s and 60’s who are smiling and enjoying this cool flight.

The truth is we are certainly in no danger.  But sometimes when we are not as comfortable as we’d like to be, we can get ungrateful.  My wife Kathy drove the 800 miles from Phoenix to Denver.  I flew and the flights are only an hour and forty five minutes.

I’m grateful I was able to fly, as time to make the long drive was not really available.  I’m grateful I have an aisle seat.  I’m grateful both flights were on time.

There’s always something to be grateful for.  There’s always something to complain about.  It’s always a choice we make.

We’ll be on the ground soon.  I just noticed the goose bumps on the back of my neck are gone.  So is the cold air!

All is well now.  I think.  Is it just me or does the air now feel just a little tiny bit on the warm side…?
