Inhaling The Pacific Ocean

Pacific Beach

I recently had a nice three day weekend in San Diego, at Pacific Beach. I spent a little bit of time sightseeing and a whole lot of time absorbing and inhaling the Pacific Ocean.

I took several walks on the beach, played in its chilly water several times, and enjoyed the view and sounds from our room. But the best was the last afternoon just

Economy, Politics and Promises

sky

Recently someone I’ve not talked to for quite awhile called to talk to me about current economic conditions. Wow! That’s a big topic!

Our discussion involved not only economic situations in our country, but also some issues on the political scene as well! Whew! Needless to say it was not a very

A Psalm For Thanksgiving

cornacopiaI have something a little different for you this year for Thanksgiving. In addition to a number of links to past Thanksgiving Day posts, I have recorded Psalm 118, and added some background music. (Links and audio player are below)

The psalmist expresses his praise and gratitude to God. From reading it, we Bible fans can certainly see his heart toward God, and at the same time, be inspired to show our own praise and thanks to our loving God.

David and others who wrote the psalms were human beings, just like us. They had

Half Full?

Some people are pessimistic and some are optimistic.  We weren’t born one way or the other; we learned to be pessimistic or optimistic.

This short (1:19) video Pep Talk is about what you see is all about your decision on how you see it.

Are You A Winner Or A Whiner?

everest

John Maxwell once said, “The difference between winners and whiners is, winners, they know they have to do the right things and then they feel good; whiners, they want to feel good before they do the right thing.”

The dictionary defines a whiner as “a person who makes frequent complaints usually about

Strike Three!

Baseball season ended this past Wednesday with the Giants beating the Royals in seven games. I love baseball. In addition to loving the game, I see a number of analogies to life itself.

I know lots of people see and even teach life lessons from many different sports: teamwork, and perseverance, for example. But for me, there are some really good analogies from the game of baseball, and perhaps the best one is starting over.

When you come up to the plate to bat in a baseball game, there are only two outcomes;

God Has a Tattoo!

Tattoos are quite popular today. When I was much younger I remember only servicemen had the names of their loved ones, or something very special to them tattooed on their arms. But in recent years, things have changed dramatically.

Today, people refer to tattoos as “ink,” “pieces,” “skin art,” “tattoo art,” “tats,” or “work.” Getting “ink” goes back thousands of years. The process now is of course much safer, and much less painful than it was in ancient times.

For some, “tattoo art” is decorative, but many still

His Great Love

In a previous Love Nugget, I talked about how the love of God is the greatest of the three – faith, hope and love. In thinking about God’s love for us, it’s really quite obvious His love is great. Great love!

The Bible, in talking about God’s grace and mercy in providing salvation, mentions “His great love wherewith He loved us.” The Bible also

I’m Sick Of All This Crap!

sick of it

Ok, I’ll simply say, stuff happens. Right? And at times, the stuff is much harder to handle than other times. It’s true for me and it’s true for you, too.

Everyone’s life has ups and downs, highs and lows, good times and not so good times. Sometimes the lows seem to linger and linger and linger; in those times it’s easy to get fed up and sick of it all.
