VETERANS DAY 2018

Saying, "Thank You!"

On this Veteran’s Day, 2018, a very heartfelt and sincere, “Thank you,” to all veterans.  Thank you for your service to our country.

In the video below, first posted in 2009, I tell a story of a veteran, and why I will always be grateful to those who serve our country. For many years on my radio show, on Veteran’s Day, I told the story related to why I so heartily support our veterans.  Enjoy the video.

The Medal Of Honor  anim-waving-usa-flag

The Medal of Honor is the highest military decoration awarded by the United States government. It is bestowed on a member of the United States armed forces who distinguishes him or herself “conspicuously by gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his or her life above and beyond the call of duty while engaged in an action against an enemy of the United States.army-medal-honor

The Medal of Honor is often presented personally to the recipient by the President of the United States. It is frequently called the Congressional Medal of Honor, stemming from its award by the Department of Defense “in the name of Congress” though the official and correct title is, Medal of Honor.

Most military veterans have never actually seen a Medal of Honor, much less met one of the few authorized to display it around their neck.   Since it was established in 1862 at the beginning of the Civil War, it has only been awarded to only 3,448 heroes and almost half of them Civil War soldiers.

On Veterans Day 2007, I had the privilege of receiving an award from the Arizona Department of Veterans” Services.  I can’t tell you what a thrill it was to receive that award from Chief Warrant Officer, Fred Ferguson, a recipient of the Medal of Honor.vetfredfurgson (Small)

Chief Warrant Officer Ferguson’s official Medal of Honor citation reads: For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. CWO Ferguson, U.S. Army distinguished himself while serving with Company C. CWO Ferguson, commander of a resupply helicopter monitoring an emergency call from wounded passengers and crewmen of a downed helicopter under heavy attack within the enemy controlled city of Hue, unhesitatingly volunteered to attempt evacuation.

Despite warnings from all aircraft to stay clear of the area due to heavy antiaircraft fire, CWO Ferguson began a low-level flight at maximum airspeed along the Perfume River toward the tiny, isolated South Vietnamese Army compound in which the crash survivors had taken refuge. Coolly and skillfully maintaining his course in the face of intense, short range fire from enemy occupied buildings and boats, he displayed superior flying skill and tenacity of purpose by landing his aircraft in an extremely confined area in a blinding dust cloud under heavy mortar and small-arms fire.

Although the helicopter was severely damaged by mortar fragments during the loading of the wounded, CWO Ferguson disregarded the damage and, taking off through the continuing hail of mortar fire, he flew his crippled aircraft on the return route through the rain of fire that he had experienced earlier and safely returned his wounded passengers to friendly control.

CWO Ferguson’s extraordinary determination saved the lives of 5 of his comrades. His actions are in the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit on himself and the U.S. Army.

WHY IS THE CREATOR SO INTERESTED IN PLANET EARTH?

Why is God so Invested and Concerned with Human Beings?

It’s unmistakable and undeniable that the Creator of all the heavens and the earth is extremely concerned with human beings here on this planet. Among other things, He gave us 66 written books, and in those writings, the Bible, He gives past, present and future details about Earth and its inhabitants. Why is He so invested and concerned with human beings on planet Earth?

You might wonder what prompted me to ask such a question. It’s mostly a result of pondering a verse in the Bible, Psalm 8:4:  “What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?” Obviously I’m not the first person to wonder why.

Imagine for a moment you own all the land in the state of Texas, over 268,000 square miles. And you decide to heavily invest your attention into a single ant hill. It’s a silly illustration, but one can readily agree the ant hill seems very small and insignificant compared to thousands of square miles, right?

The World Series

Time For The Fall Classic

Baseball fans are gearing up for the Fall Classic – the 2018 World Series.  If you love baseball, it is an exciting time.

Here’s  a short video I did a few years ago, talking about how baseball relates to life itself. I mention an interview I had with D-backs third baseman,, Matt Williams about what to do when you’re in a “slump.”

UNDERSTANDING THE BIBLE

An Important Key To Remember

I’ve been a fan of the Bible for a very long time. I enjoy reading the Scriptures as well as taking the time to study God’s Word. If understanding the Bible is important to you, you’ll be happy to know I will soon be releasing a book that will help those who enjoy reading Bible understand it more.

An important key in understanding the Bible is recognizing the culture in which it was written. This book gives insight to the culture behind over 48 verses, which will help to make those verses more easily understood.

The title of the book will be, What Does It Mean? Bible Culture Revealed. It  provides wonderful insight regarding the culture of biblical times with respect to manners, customs, idioms, and other figures of speech.

For example, what was the intended meaning when the psalmist wrote, “I am become like a bottle in the smoke”? One might readily recognize the figure of speech employed in that verse, but what exactly was, “a bottle in the smoke”?

The same is true in reverse. Perhaps there are parts of the world that would not understand if they read something in a book that said, “He threw some hot dogs on the grill.” Here in the United States one would easily understand, but those in another part of the world may be a bit puzzled and wonder what kind of dogs, why were they thrown, and, what’s a “grill”? They lack understanding of our culture and idioms.

Final editing is underway. Cover design is in the works. Plans for both paperback and Kindle version are in motion. I will of course have a special post on this blog when it is released.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU DIE?

What If It’s Really True?

Some believe it. Some don’t. But is it really true?

Is there life after you die? Believing something doesn’t make it true and not believing something doesn’t make it false; it’s either true or it’s not.

In the first part of the Bible, you read about people living a very long time, but they all eventually died. Statistics from 201  show the average life expectancy in the United States is 76 years for males and 81 years for females. But regardless of the average, everyone

HAVE YOU TRIED AND FAILED?

The Voice of Truth - An Inspiring Song

On many occasions I have tried and failed. I’m sure you have too. What is it that helps you get up and try again?

I believe the promises in the Bible are true. When I listen to the “voice of truth” I am encouraged to look up, get up, and move forward again, and again, and again! Mark Batterson in his book, The Circle Maker  said, “Logic screams, ‘No!’ Faith whispers, ‘Yes’”

Here’s an inspiring video from Casting Crowns album, Casting Crowns, titled, Voice of Truth.

Coming Soon…A New Book!

I have a new paperback  book (and Kindle too) coming out soon!  It is currently undergoing final edits, and I am working on the cover. Stay tuned for updates, and previews!

THERE IS NO GOD?

Does The Bible Really Say, “There Is No God?”

Many years ago, I was somewhat startled when someone purported that the Bible says there is no God. How could that be, I thought. Sounds preposterous, doesn’t it? And yet, I soon discovered the Bible indeed does say, “There is no God.”

I need to explain this.

When I first heard the Bible says there is no God, it was actually in a Bible class. The teacher was making the point you can prove almost anything from the Bible. The example he used was
